The VOLCANIC ORIGIN label
A unique mark of recognition for all volcanic-terroir wines
After a four-year campaign of scientific research studies, the nonprofit association Vinora has successfully evidenced the distinctive characteristics of volcanic-terroir wines. This effort culminated in the creation of the very first label certifying cuvées forged in these incredibly dynamic volcanic terroirs, where vines grow on soils made of basalt, peperite, pozzolan and pumice stone.
These cuvées are rare, accounting for barely 2% of the world’s vineyards, but deliver their own distinctive aromas: smoky notes, bold salinity, and minerality…
Vines grown on volcanic soils – on a volcano or at its foot, on pyroclastic deposits or scoured erosive formations – enjoy a specific kind of soil-type terroir.
Volcanic terroirs, packed with basalt, peperite, pozzolan and pumice stone, offer a specific set of agronomically valuable features:
- Natural filtration
- Good water-holding capacity
- Optimized uptake of minerals and organic elements.
It is this unique combination of factors that lends volcanic wines their incomparably distinctive signature.
The Volcanic Origin label guarantees that each certified-volcanic cuvée is provenanced exclusively from volcanic-terroir vineyard plots.
